Health and Safety

The Manitoba Federation of Labour is dedicated to the security and welfare of all working people. The protection and enhancement of their health and safety is considered a primary method to accomplish this.

Ellen Olfert and Tina Szymanski
The MFL's Health and Safety Committee meets monthly, except during July and August. Ellen Olfert of Workers of Tomorrow and Tina Szymanski of the Manitoba Government Employees Union are seen here at the January 2008 meeting.

The MFL has many approaches and strategies including a standing committee dedicated to Occupational Health and Safety, developing of policies to direct Government, a nationally recognized Occupational Health and Safety Center, and a full time Health and Safety Representative. We also participate on the Minister's Advisory Council on Health and Safety.

An important component deals with education for all workers. To that end, we have developed this portion of the web site to help you understand your rights, and answer questions you may have. Elsewhere on this site, we also provide links to other sites that will give you a better understanding of workers' health and safety issues.

We've also produced a series of six posters that you can download and post in your workplace. They cover key areas of workplace health and safety that apply to both union and non-union workplaces. These posters are in PDF format, so of course you need Acrobat Reader or a similar program to open, read and print them.
