Fighting the Export of JobsBoycott imposed on Goodyear products. In October 2006, Goodyear Tire and Rubber forced 15,000 members of the United Steelworkers to engage in strike action. The key issue forcing these workers to stay on the picket line is a demand that Goodyear not close manufacturing plants in North America and ship jobs overseas.
If Goodyear is successful in exporting the jobs of their striking workers, provinces like Alberta, Ontario and Quebec will once again see more manufacturing jobs permanently lost. The workers and their union are committed to achieving plant security language that will keep these good paying jobs in communities across Canada. Meanwhile, Goodyear is using replacement workers to make tires that are sold in Canada In response to a request from the Steelworkers, on November 27 the Canadian Labour Federation initiated a boycott and hot goods edict on all Goodyear made tires and rubber products. In addition to tires showing the Goodyear name, Motomaster tires are also made by Goodyear. Don't tread on Canadian jobs. Don't go with Goodyear. |
