MFL President Honoured by Aboriginal GroupThe Interprovincial Association on Native Employment(IANE) works to promote the interests of young aboriginals. Their efforts are primarily in the areas of training and education, which are the two keys to young people finding meaningful employment. It is an organization that the MFL strongly supports. MFL President Darlene Dziewit says IANE is "a true example of not just talking the talk, but in walking the walk. They are to be commended." One of ways in which the MFL demonstrates its support for IANE is by encouraging and supporting Cathy Woods, an MFL Executive Council member and chair of the MFL Aboriginal Caucus, in her very active involvement IANE. It became clear that the support and respect between the MFL and IANE is mutual when Darlene became one of four people IANE presented awards to at their recent 'Breakfast of Champions'. "The award was a great honour," Darlene said, "and what makes it particularly special is the acceptance of the labour movement by the Board and staff of IANE. They truly get it." In addition to Darlene, the other recipients of IANE awards at the Breakfast of Champions were Lorne Keeper, Executive Director First Nation Education Resource Center, Brian Postl, CEO of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, and Jeff Zabudsky of Red River College.
