Join the Fight for a Child Care Program

The fight for an effective national child care system is at a crossroads. We need to put as much pressure on our elected Members of Parliament as possible to make sure they know and understand what most Canadians want for their children and families.

We demand that the prime minister reinstate the five-year, $5 billion child care program signed by the former federal government with three Canadian provinces, and now scrapped by him. We want those agreements to be extended to children in all the other provinces and territories.

Substantial, sustainable funding to the provinces is an essential tool in building a comprehensive system of child care services to meet the needs of all families regardless of where they live—their income levels, hours of work or whether the parents are in the labour force, studying or at home. Our plan is premised on public accountability, fairness and respect for diversity and would be inclusive of children with special needs, and those from different linguistic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
