Manitoba Well Represented in Federal NDPAt the recent convention of the Federal NDP in Halifax, elections were conducted for many of the executive positions within the federal party. Manitoba was well represented among those elected to office. MFL President Darlene Dziewit was elected to the Federal Council, as was Cyril Keeper, a former Winnipeg city councillor and federal NDP MP from 1980 to '88. Maeghan Dewar, the daughter of Bob Dewar (Manitoba NDP campaign manager), was elected as the Prairie Representative on the Federal Executive. Rebecca Blaikie, the eldest daughter of recently elected Manitoba MLA and long time federal Member of Parliament Bill Blaikie, was elected as Federal Party Treasurer. Rebecca Blaikie is currently Special Assistant to the Honourable Nancy Allan, Manitoba Minister of Labour. Darlene Dziewit nominated Rebecca Blaikie for the position of treasurer. Other Manitobans now serving on the NDP Federal Council include Manitoba Premier Gary Doer, Manitoba Party President Lorraine Sigurdson, and Manitoba Provincial Secretary, Sonia Kowalewich. |
