Convention Supports Hydro Strikers

Among the more urgent resolutions passed by convention delegates was a pledge of support for union members now on strike against Manitoba Hydro across the province. About 3000 members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 2034, are on strike for the first time in more than fifty years against the Crown owned utility.

Delegates and leadership at the Convention pledged their support for the strikers, saying a struggle by one union is a shared struggle for all unions and union members in Manitoba.

On the final morning of the convention, Garnet Boyd of IBEW 2034, a delegate to the convention, was joined on the floor of the convention by two of the striking workers, to thank the delegates for their support.
