New Senior Executive ElectedThe nearly 500 delegates from the 35 MFL affiliated unions have elected new senior Executives. The new MFL President is Kevin Rebeck (centre, during swearing in ceremony), currently President of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Manitoba Division, General Vice President of CUPE National and 2nd Vice President of Winnipeg Labour Council. Brother Rebeck has also served as a member of the MFL Executive Council for eight years, the last three as MFL Executive Vice President. President Rebeck thanked all outgoing members of Executive Council for their many years of service to the MFL and the working men and women they represented "It's an honour to have the unanimous support of Manitoba's labour movement as I assume my new duties," he said. "The MFL will continue to push governments to enact progressive laws and policies that will benefit working families. To do this, we will redouble our efforts to activate, motivate and educate union activists to carry out our work on the shop floor, in our communities and in the political arena." Robert Ziegler (on right in above photo), President of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 832 and former Executive Vice President of the MFL, was elected Treasurer. Brother Ziegler is also Vice President of UFCW's Canada National Council, Chair of the Manitoba Pension Commission, Co-chair of the Premier's Economic Advisory Council, member of the Province's Labour Management Review Committee and he represents the MFL on Centre Port. Sister Wendy Sol, Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union Administrative Vice-President Western Region was elected Executive Vice President of the MFL. She has been a member of the MFL Executive Council for seven years, part-time Commissioner of the Manitoba Automobile Injury Compensation Appeal Commission, and labour representative on the Manitoba Worker's Compensation Board. Sister Lois Wales, 1st Vice President of the MGEU was elected Executive Vice President of the MFL. Sister Wales is also Vice President of the National Union of Public and General Employees, a post she has held since 1998 and a member of NUPGE's Women's Advisory Committee. The Senior Executive members of the MFL are responsible for the day to day activities of the MFL between quarterly Executive Council meetings. |
