Passing of John Beddome a Loss to Labour Movement

The late John Beddome

The labour movement lost an activist and strong supporter with the peaceful passing of John Howard Beddome on November 21, 2009 at the age of 61 years. Before illness forced him to retire in October 2005, John had a long and successful career as Business Manager for the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades, Local 739. He was well thought of and respected within the Building Trades community and was dedicated to his membership always striving to make things better for them.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Nadia, children Sharla (Chad) Pucknell, Trevor and his two precious grandchildren Chase and Bethany. He is also survived by his brother, George (Renee) Beddome and niece Jessica, and mother-in-law Mary Mostoway, as well as numerous relatives and friends. He will be missed by his four legged buddy Arthur.

John was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Laura, brother Bill and father-in-law Mike Mostoway and brother-in-law Ernest Mostoway. John was born in Winnipeg on September 15, 1948. He grew up in Melville, Saskatchewan, and as a young man found his way back to Winnipeg where he made his home.

John enjoyed all sports, gardening and hunting. He was a member of the West Kildonan Curling Club for many years before his illness. He was very proud of his cottage at Crooked Lake, Saskatchewan and looked forward to being there enjoying his time with family and friends. John especially loved fishing and could be seen out on the lake for hours trying to catch the Big One.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's memory to CancerCare Manitoba.
