Margaret Day Receives Woman of Achievement AwardSister Margaret Day is a long time labour activist and member of MGEU. She served as 4th Vice President of the MGEU during the 1980s and represented her union and members at the national level through NUPGE and the Canadian Labour Congress. Sister Day was determined to improve the lives of working people through her activism in women's issues and workers' health and safety rights. Her important contributions include establishing the MGEU's Women's Health and Safety Committees, increasing the public profile of such issues as child care, pay equity, ergonomic work station design and repetitive strain injuries, and furthering the work of the MFL Occupational Health Centre. Throughout her working career, Sister Day also found the time to be active on the MFL, CLC and NUPGE Committees for Health and Safety, Compensation and Women's Issues. She served on the Board of Governors of the Canadian Centre of Occupational Health and Safety and labour co-chair of the Government Division of the United Way Annual Campaign. |
