Recognizing the Leaders of TomorrowThe Young Member's Achievement Award for 2009 was presented to Sister Kelly Moist. The criteria for this award includes that the recipient be a union member under 35 years of age, be active in their union/Manitoba Federation of Labour, and made a significant contribution to the labour movement by reaching out to young workers, both organized and unorganized. Kelly Moist (seen receiving award from Keven Rebeck and Darlene Dziewit) received her degree in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement at the University of Winnipeg. She is currently employed at the Workers Compensation Board and is a CUPE 1063 member. She serves as Recording Secretary of her local executive as well as sitting on various committees within her local such as the Workload Committee and Compressed Work Week Committee. She is also active within CUPE Manitoba, sitting on the Human Rights Committee and Contracting Out/Political Action Committees. In 2009, she was elected to the position of Winnipeg Area Representative of the CUPE Manitoba Executive. For the past two years, she has been the co-chair of the CUPE provincial Youth Committee as well as acting as Manitoba's representative on the CUPE National Young Workers Committee. The committee that selected Kelly for this award feels that is young people such as Kelly Moist who embody the dedication and values of the labour movement that are our future and make her worthy of this Award. |
