Settlement Ends Postal Strike

The 2,100 members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) who work at Canada Post have accepted the contract offer tabled by their employer on Sunday, December 21. The PSAC members returned to work on December 23.

The workers, who have been on strike since November 17, had voted on December 13 and 14 to reject the employer's previous offer to replace employee sick leave and family-related leave with the employer's poorly designed Short Term Disability Plan. This latest offer that was accepted contains improvements to the short-term disability plan. Other highlights of the new four-year contract include a $500 signing bonus, wage increases of 2.5 per cent in 2008 and 2009, and 2.75 per cent in 2010 and 2011.

PSAC members at Canada Post provide customer service and perform administrative, financial, technical and professional duties. The workers were expected to return to work on Tuesday.
