On Wednesday, November 5, long time UFCW Local 832 union representative Cyrus Lister passed away, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Cyrus was a union representative with UFCW Local 832 for over 20 years. During those years, he provided loyal service to virtually all sectors of the local's membership. Cyrus had the unique ability to get along with just about anybody, which stood him in good stead with Local 832's diverse membership.

His laughter was infectious, and he often used it to diffuse tense situations. Cyrus also had an uncanny ability to work with management, while still fiercely representing the members he served. He got results.

Over the years, Cyrus became a fixture on various International Union committees within UFCW Canada. He made many friends across the country. They will dearly miss him.

Cyrus was a unique individual, who was never at a loss for words. Anyone meeting him for the first time would remember him. He was also quite possibly the most optimistic person I knew.

Cyrus Lister is survived by his wife, Pat, his children Aimee, Adam and Eric and their respective spouses. He is also survived by his beloved grandson, Brendan, whom he adored.

The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12 at Christ the King Church, 847 St. Mary's Road in St. Vital. Interment and reception will follow at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
