MGEU Activist Wayne Andon Passes Away

Wayne Andon in 1988

Brother Wayne Andon has passed away. Wayne was a long-time union activist with the MGEU. He was the Director of the Physical Sciences Component and Chair of the Pension and Benefits Committee for a number of years before being elected the union's 4th Vice-President.

In 1989, he was elected 2nd Vice-President and chaired the Finance Committee until his retirement in 2000. Over the past few years, he served as a member of the Buffalo Credit Union Board of Directors, the Superannuation Board of Directors, and the Buffalo/Assiniboine Credit Union Merger Steering Committee.

Wayne was passionate about improving pensions for members and retirees, as well as keeping the union finances in good shape during his tenure. He was awarded with the MGEU's Honourary Lifetime Membership and had recently been active in the Manitoba Government Retired Employees' Association (MGREA) and was president of the Association at the time of his death. Besides his continuing involvement in the MGREA, Wayne shot a mean game of golf and loved to travel.

He's survived by his wife Connie, son Dean, daughter Kerry, and grandchildren. Wayne will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
