Key Issues Discussed at Mid-term Conference

The Manitoba Federation of Labour convened its Mid-term Conference on Monday June 6, at the Hotel Fort Garry in Winnipeg, About 100 leaders and activists from MFL affiliates met to discuss labour issues that have been identified by union members as important to them and their families, particularly in a Manitoba provincial general election year.

On Sunday, June 5, Conference registrants attended a social gathering at the hotel to mingle and renew acquaintances. Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger (right) brought greetings to the "meet and greet" on behalf of the NDP Caucus.

The one-day conference is focusing on issues such as safety on the job, minimum wage and the viability of public pensions such as the Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement, among others.

The MFL is sponsoring a Community Campaign called Working Families Manitoba to make sure these issues are talked about by the leaders of all political parties that are fielding candidates in the October 4, 2011 election. The objective of the campaign is to open the way for working families, and all Manitobans, to learn what each leader stands for and plans to do in the future.
